Travelling to the Future

Posted by rienna on September 8, 2008

I downloaded an interesting video from youtube.. It tells about a man that had travel to the future and claim that he saw himself at 70 years old. He did not know what actually bring him to travel through time.. He knew that many people would not believe in his journey.. so he recorded the incident through his phone that he had brought in his pocket. It’s up to you to believe it or not.. even science can not really explain what actually happened. Here is the video..

My Sister’s Keeper

Posted by rienna on August 8, 2008

Okay.. This is another sad story that I read..
I’ll tell the whole story in here.. leaving out the details.. I recommend you all who like to read novels to pick this one up.. I think it’s really good story.. with a very sad ending (hikz…Hikzz..)

I’ll start from here..

There is this family, having two children, an older son, Jesse, and youngest daughter, Kate. But, their sorrowfulness started when Kate was 3 years old and was diagnosed with acute leukemia, which is a cancer of bone marrow or blood cells, which usually immediate treatment. Kate was predicted by Dr. Chance, the professional doctor in that area, to die by the age of 5. Her mother could not accept it and looking for any possible way in order to let her live. The parents were so focused on Kate that they forgot about their life. They start to forget to have fun, and became ignorant to Jesse as the mother think that her daughter needed her the most. Everything they do was always for Kate.
So, they had an idea to make a design baby that has Kate’s trait, so that the baby’s blood will be compatible to Kate and allows Kate continue to live. The mother did not even think about the future when she did it, even when she was 7 months pregnant, she did not even thinking about the baby’s name. And well, the baby was girl called Anna. The first day she was born, the mother give the baby to the doctor as soon as possible so he could take her blood to donate to Kate. As time goes, Anna grows older and older but she never stops donating her bodies part to Kate, from her blood, bone marrow, leukocytes, anything that Kate lack of. When Anna was young, the mother always tells her that it would not hurt her, and it is to help her sister, so indirectly it was like forcing her. And when Anna was hospitalized receiving pain from donating her body parts, the mother did not even accompany her.. she looked after Kate instead. Anna and Jesse felt so lonely as they grew older.. until when Anna turned 13 years old, and she shattered the family’s hope by hiring a lawyer to sue their parents for using her body. She refused to donate anything to Kate anymore. That time, Kate’s kidney was severely damaged and need replacement, and if not, she will die.
The mother, who left her career as lawyer, fight her way as a mother and lawyer to get Anna’s back and keep on saying that this matter was not serious and that Anna was only looking for attention. But, the mother was wrong, Anna never allow their parents to convince them anymore, even though it actually hurt her, by hurting their parents and even Kate, but she could not stand it anymore. Because of that, she was not allowed to sleep over her friends house, she was not allowed to take parts in sports, not allowed to go to a party as she was always needed by their parents in case Kate suddenly collapse and need her platelet. Because of this, Anna move out from her home and stay in her father workplace. Her father was a bit more understanding than her mother and he could see why Anna done that to them. He did not blame Anna for that, even though he was also thinking hard about Kate.
But, in the court, Anna refused to be testified by her lawyer. She never let people know what exactly made her do it. Until one day, she start to think that her mother have to know why she did it and agreed to be testified. So, she told the court that actually Kate herself that convince her to sue her parents and she thanked her for that. She did not want Anna to donate her kidney to her. She knew that eventually she will die too even if Anna donate her kidney and that will only hurt Anna in the future. If Anna get older and her kidney is not functioning well anymore, she would need another spare to save her, but it would not happen if Kate take it from her. She also was tired living like that and was ready to be taken away by God, only if her mother let her. The mother was so shocked to hear her statements and could not fight anymore. The judge finally let Anna to decide for herself, to make decision for her own body, and make decision for herself medically. And that was the end of the fight between them.
By the time, Kate was coma as her kidney was failing. Anna need to sign a paper with her lawyer to certify her medically for her body. But on their way, they had accident. The lawyer was safe but Anna gave a very weak pulse and did not responding to any treatment. By the time she gets to the hospital and helped by machine, the doctor said that her brain is already dead and only the machine that keeps her alive. The parents were so sad and they are the one that had to switch off the machine to let her go. The lawyer said to the doctor to donate her kidney to her sister Kate.
Well, Anna died.. Kate received her kidney and was able to live until 10 years later. She was healthier even though the leukemia was still there, and it all thanks to Anna. Anna died in her place..

The Mummy: Tomb of The Dragon Emperor

Posted by rienna on August 2, 2008

This movie is just out in the cinema in 31st August in Malaysia. Fortunately, I am lucky enough to get a ticket with good seat hehe.. I had to sacrifice my long morning sleep and got up early so I could watch this.. well, it was worth it.

The movie was about a fierce emperor (Jet Li) in the ancient times who has ambition to rule the world and stop freedom. But he does not have the time as he grows older so he aims for eternity.. A witch (Michelle Yeoh) knew that it was not going to be good so she cursed him and all his army so they are stoned. After 200 years passed, a general wanted to wake him up from the curse so he could rule the world again and finish his unfinished business.
You can watch the trailer in official The Mummy site.

I think the movie was funny, had a lot of effects but it lack of action compared to its first and second movies. But overall, I still like it.. I like the actor, Brendan Fraser, the uncle, but the wife is this movie was different. I like the other one better.. prettier. Well, may be they had to change the wife character as the other one looks younger than the grown up son.

Nineteen Minutes

Posted by rienna on July 29, 2008

Author: Jodi Picoult
Genre: Fiction

There are many things you can do in nineteen minutes, from regular things like cutting the lawn, doing your laundry, bake a cake and other things that makes you jump off the world like revenge.

This book tells a story of a boy, called Peter, experiencing bullying in all his life, since he started his kindergarten. It was not a matter for him as his best friend, Josie, was always supporting him, at first. Then, everything started to change between them as she walks away from his life. The bullying never stops, on and on…until one day, when he decided to stop all of it. Who is to blame?

This is one of the best novel I’ve read so far, written by Jodi Picoult and she has become of on my favorite author. It tells every important bit of Peter life and life surrounding him since he was small up to when he made his decision. It tells the journey of his life and as I read the book, I could feel of how empty or sad he was. It was one of the best seller in New York Times. I recommend you all to read this book.. 5 stars from me :)

You can view the novel trailer here.
